·       Produces narrative, expository, procedural, and literary response writing that demonstrates appropriate organization

·       Spells with accuracy most first grade high frequency words

·       Produces a legible story by applying sound/symbol, directionality, neatness, and spacing skills

·       Begin to use mechanics accurately, such as capital letters, ending punctuation, spacing, and directionality

·       Use sound symbol relationships, conventional spelling, word families, and spelling generalization

·       Spell first grade high frequency words correctly

·       Demonstrate awareness of story structures, such as problem/solution, cause/effect, and beginning, middle, and end

·       Produce a story that is readable (sound/ symbol, directionality, neatness, and spacing)

·       Incorporate suitable drawings, diagrams, and graphics within written text

·       Develop descriptive language

·       Begin to develop ability to edit own writing
