WELCOME TO THE JANE ANDERSON LIBRARY
AT METCALF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

The Library has a collection of over 13,000 print and non-print materials. The collection supports (1) the curriculum of grades 3 through 6, (2) the recreational reading of the student population, and (3) the professional materials of the staff. The collection belongs to the school population, and every patron is responsible for returning materials in their original condition.
The Library program has a fixed schedule. All classes come to the Library weekly. The objective of Library class is to support the curriculum, to lay a foundation for life-long learning, and to enrich the love of reading. Students are assessed according to National and Rhode Island Information Literacy Standards.
Individual students and small groups often visit the Library for curriculum-related research in addition to their weekly class visits. Students use fiction, nonfiction, reference, magazines, and “reserved” materials to help with their projects.
All the computers in the school have access to the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog). The OPAC provides students and faculty access to the Library’s collection by searching Title, Author, Subject, Series, Keyword, and Call Number.
